چکیده
A new 9-point sixth-order accurate compact finite-difference method for solving the Helmholtz equation in one and two dimensions, is developed and analyzed. This scheme is based on sixth-order approximation to the derivative calculated from the Helmholtz equation. A sixth-order accurate symmetrical representation for the Neumann boundary condition was also developed. The efficiency and accuracy of the scheme is validated by its application to two test problems which have exact solutions. Numerical results show that this sixth-order scheme has the expected accuracy and behaves robustly with respect to the wave number. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New Fourth Order Explicit Group Method in the Solution of the Helmholtz Equation
In this paper, the formulation of a new group explicit method with a fourth order accuracy is described in solving the two dimensional Helmholtz equation. The formulation is based on the nine-point fourth order compact finite difference approximation formula. The complexity analysis of the developed scheme is also presented. Several numerical experiments were conducted to test the feasibility o...
متن کاملCompact 2D and 3D sixth order schemes for the Helmholtz equation with variable wave number
Several studies have presented compact fourth order accurate finite difference approximation for the Helmholtz equation in two or three dimensions. Several of these formulae allow for the wave number k to be variable. Other papers have extended this further to include variable coefficients within the Laplacian which models non-homogeneous materials in electromagnetism. Later papers considered m...
متن کاملA sixth-order dual preserving algorithm for the Camassa-Holm equation
The paper presents a sixth-order numerical algorithm for studying the completely integrable CamassHolm (CH) equation. The proposed sixth-order accurate method preserves both the dispersion relation and the Hamiltonians of the CH equation. The CH equation in this study is written as an evolution equation, involving only the first-order spatial derivatives, coupled with the Helmholtz equation. We...
متن کاملSemi-analytical Solutions of the 2-d Homo- Geneous Helmholtz Equation by the Method of Connected Local Fields
The frequency-domain finite-difference (FD-FD) methods have been successfully used to obtain numerical solutions of the twodimensional (2-D) Helmholtz equation. The standard second-order accurate FD-FD scheme is known to produce unwanted numerical spatial and temporal dispersions when the sampling is inadequate. Recently compact higher-order accurate FD-FD methods have been proposed to reduce t...

We present an explicit sixth order compact finite difference scheme for fast high accuracy numerical solutions of the two dimensional convection diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The sixth order scheme is based on the well-known fourth order compact scheme, the Richardson extrapolation technique, and an operator interpolation scheme. For a particular implementation, we use multisca...
